Filmmakers Alfonso Cuarón and Jonás Cuarón presented the thriller, Desierto, as the Closing Night film of the Los Angeles Film Festival earlier this month. Among the crew also present at the festival screening was two producers, Carlos Cuarón and Alex García, as well as Executive Producer, Nicolas Celis. The same day it was announced that the film will have a theatrical release later this year on October 14th.
Jonás Cuarón, writer, producer and director, explained that he wrote a film to keep viewers “hanging on to their seats from start to finish” while it also contains an important theme as is immigration.
Synopsis:
From Jonás Cuarón and Alfonso Cuarón, the acclaimed filmmakers of Gravity, comes a unique, modern vision of terror. Desierto is a visceral, heart-pounding suspense-thriller packed with tension and suspense from start to finish, starring Gael García Bernal (The Motorcycle Diaries and Y Tu Mamá También), Jeffrey Dean Morgan (Watchmen) and Alondra Hidalgo.
What begins as a hopeful journey to seek a better life becomes a harrowing and primal fight for survival when a deranged, rifle-toting vigilante chases a group of unarmed men and women through the treacherous U.S.-Mexican border. In the harsh, unforgiving desert terrain, the odds are stacked firmly against them as they continuously discover there’s nowhere to hide from the unrelenting, merciless killer.
