FUSEBOX presents Tejano Music History at Austin Revolutions per Minute Project

Join the Fusebox Festival this Saturday April 9tht at the Texas Music Museum featuring Austin Revolutions per Minute Project on Tejano music stories!

Austin Revolutions per Minute is part of the Fusebox Festival 2016 Featured Projects series. This will be a one day event celebrating Austin’s music history through a series of vinyl listening rooms curated by prominent historians, record collectors, authors, artists, and students of Austin’s music history.

Vinyl’s resurgence owes much to acoustic fidelity, surely, but there is also something to be said for its tactile nature in a digital world. Records tell stories about those who have made them, about those who have loved them, and about the scenes through which they grew. This project is dedicated to these stories, and Austinites and Fusebox fans are invited to gather together to explore music’s sense of time—the length of a 45, the span of a generation, the history of a community—and space—the acoustics of a room, the legendary aura of a club, and the rapidly shifting geography of a city.

Record players will be set up in multiple sites related to the city’s rich musical history and each space will be themed around genre—country and Tejano, blues and jazz, psychedelic and punk. Festival attendees are invited to drop by to talk about records, music and the history of the place we call home. Austin Revolutions per Minute will tell some stories that we know, and learn from your stories we haven’t heard before. South Austin Popular Culture Center, 1516-B South Lamar Blvd: Psych and Country; The Historic Victory Grill, 1104 E 11th: Blues and Jazz; Texas Music Museum, 1009 E 11th: Tejano; and The Local Pub & Patio, 2610 Guadalupe: Punk. Saturday, April 9th and come and go as you wish between 2-5pm. This is a free event and reservations are not required. Event collaborators in the Tejano music genre include ALMA (Austin Latino Music Association), ATMC (Austin Tejano Music Coalition) and Crossroad Events.
