Mexico’s greates music of Mariachi Vargas at the Long Center this Saturday!

mariachivargas_webWho: Mariachi Vargas de Tecalitlán, long known as the “Greatest Mariachi in the World,” is a 13-piece ensemble, based in Mexico City, and comprised of some of the finest mariachi instrumentalists and vocalists in the world. Mariachi Vargas sets the standard for mariachi music—world-class musicians, flawless ensemble work, impeccable taste in arrangements and repertoire, and spellbinding showmanship.

Why: Mariachi Vargas, founded in 1898 in the southern Jalisco village of Tecalitlán, recently celebrated its 115th anniversary. No mariachi has played a more important role in the evolution of Mexican folk music than has Vargas. This June, in Austin, Mariachi Vargas de Tecalitlán presents the Texas debut of its Sixth Generation, under the leadership of its new musical director, Carlos Martínez.
