Sky Candy Aerial and Circus Arts Collective and B. Iden Payne award-winning director Rudy Ramirez are thrilled to announce their collaboration on COSMICOMICS, an aerial theatre adaptation of the internationally beloved short stories of Italo Calvino, running June 21 – 29, 2014, at the Rollins Theatre at the Long Center.
COSMICOMICS, Sky Candy’s sixth theatrical production and their first collaboration with an established and award-winning Austin director, will represent an artistic leap forward in fully integrating aerials with theatrical dialogue and movement. Adapted from World Fantasy Award winner Italo Calvino’s internationally beloved short stories about the origins of the universe, COSMICOMICS will draw from the aesthetics of silent film, commedia dell’arte and turn-of-the-century circus arts to tell stories of climbing ladders to the moon, the love-life of the last living dinosaur, and why the ultimate answer to the question “Why are we here?” just might be “pasta.”
“We are proud to be one of a handful of companies around the world to be granted the rights to Calvino’s work, and we will live up to that exceptional honor by creating a dazzling, romantic aerial theatre piece for the whole family that is as Austin as it is Italian,” said director Rudy Ramirez.
